I'm conflicted on this article. I really like the beginning, but the article quickly trails off into a lot of random ideas that I do not find very interesting, personally. I love the idea of a level that pretends to be your real home, and it's genuinely scary, but I think this article fails to deliver on the premise.
The emotional state thing feels out of place to me, and the weather stuff is just not very interesting. Also, I think the lengthy paragraph about the voids is pretty boring.
Here's an idea: instead of being a perfect replica of your home before you left it, it would instead be a perfect replica of how you remember it. At first, you wouldn't be able to tell it's fake. But over time you would realize that there's things that are off. Memories are inaccurate, and tend to be blurred together with similar memories. So this level would be like a weird combination of several different versions of your house from over the years, based on your memories.
Perhaps the memories would get more distorted the longer you stay, and the house would become nightmarish.
