I intend to put this into the Backrooms system. Please share your thoughts and if I should change anything to further my goal to make this a terrifying piece of writing. I intend to put a fun twist on common liminal areas such as a playground while keeping faithful to the established concept of the Backrooms.

1. The critics there were complete dogshit, or at least one of them was. I uploaded a draft with tons of SPaG on it, the critic reviewing mine greenlit it and I got screwed over. And no, he knew there was SPaG in the article and just decided not to tell me. So fuck that.
2. Although I tried to ignore this. There was like 3 pedophiles sexually harassing somebody on their discord that their moderation team did nothing about. That was a clear red flag.
3. Other than the pedophiles, the large majority of people there just gave me a bad vibe. I do find it funny however that people insult this wiki and RPC when the actual Backrooms Wikidot feels like its being run by Jared Fogle.

What about it didn't people like? Do I need more crit? I want to try again! I want to create scary Backrooms levels! Liminal Archives is the best Backrooms site. Better than the others.

So i have this idea of an infinite apartment complex that starts out nice and somewhat safe, with the wanderer starting off in a more nice looking complex with modern apartments, and as you go through the level, you will start to encounter different areas and patches of the level that appear more rundown and ghetto with varying degrees of safety and quality of items. The safer parts of the level will still have level specific dangers and entities, and the more dangerous areas will have there own benefits for seeking them
out and will, of course, have more extreme dangers. I also wanted to include a day and night cycle, having the environment change drastically as night falls and day begins.

Entity Classification

Description

It’s appearance is usually compared to that of a smiler, as it’s face is the only distinguishing aspect while it’s full physical appearance is unknown due to its nature to settle is dark shallow spaces, particularly large empty hallways, however unlike smilers it’s primary color seems to be red instead of the usual white, hence its name ‘red face’. Countless classified screenshots however suggest it may be a large, mechanical figure with some human aspects, more notes on the ‘biology’ section.

Behaviors

Typically, it crawls around long, dark places such as hallways or a wide room, seemingly scavenging for its prey, if spotted, red face will typically use various physiological and physical means to weaken the victim while staying hidden, such as reminiscing multiple rude remarks into the wanderers ears, or scratching at their faces when said wanderer is distracted, and when they are weakened enough, red face will lunge at them with no warning and start to rip their skin out, it is unknown what they do to the discarded body, however one wanderer reported seeing red face use the skin as a sort of suit but fails due to its abduct size and lanky structure. A note to give is that typically red face is seen showing discomfort or fear near any light source’s and especially fire source’s, such as flashlights, lighters, and matches.

Biology

as previously stated, due to its nature to hide in dark shallow places, it’s biology is known very little, however, Various researchers have proposed that it might have a human and mechanical nature due to its ominous noises and various classified photos of it seemingly having a human head with red hair and chest covered in tattered clothing, while the rest seems to be a cluster of wires and pipes that seems to mimic an animal-like structure, seemingly like a hound. Speaking of mimicking, it is reported that it can mimic various sounds, typically one of a howler or some maniacal laughter. It also discreets a certain type of oil including blood, possibly from its human side of things. It seems to be a singular entity.

Discovery

first documented when a wanderer on level 1 reported inhumane noises in a nearby small base followed by screams and then laughter, upon peering through the window he saw quote: “a smiler, but it was huge and all red!” At first it was regarded as myth, however, reports throughout the year have piled up for the existence of the creature to be verified.

Recently, I discovered that one of my childhood experiences was inside of a liminal space. Everything was so peaceful, but it all went wrong in seconds. I've finally been able to muster the courage needed to tell people. I'm afraid you will not believe me.

When I was 5, My school went on a field trip. Do you remember going somewhere that was filled with inflatables beyond your wildest dreams?

I do. Very Clearly. My friends and I were having so much fun. This place is called Pump It Up. It was a staple of my childhood. There was an entry room, with a patterned carpet that looked like something you would see in the 80's. We would sit down and watch the introduction video, filled with rules and fun. We would go to the three rooms, and each one had three inflatables. We had 1 hour in each room.

The first two rooms were fine, but when I saw the third room, I felt like I'd been there before. I had this sinking feeling. I told one of the chaperones that I needed to use the restroom, and was able to get out of there.

One time, and one time only, did the door out of the third room lead to a fourth room. It was filled with inflatables, but not the kind that would be in a children's inflatables collection. I was in a completely different location.

I can't even begin to describe it.

It looked so surreal. The inflatables you'd only see in a lucid dream were all stored in that specific room. The room was always getting bigger, more and more inflatables added by the minute. Soon, the inflatables started to close in on me. I ran to the door, and tried to get out.

No matter how hard I tried to open it, the door wouldn't budge. I started to feel the latex creeping up on me, pushing my body closer and closer to the door. Suddenly, the door opened, and I tumbled out, falling face first onto the floor. I quickly got up, and tried to tell the chaperones about the fourth room, but they said I was crazy. I am sure it was not my imagination.

So, I'm starting with the fact that this is a desert. No plants are around, but entities abound. The air itself is an entity, and as wanderers breathe it in, THINGS crawl beneath their skin like some horror movie. When viewed with a light, the skin is deforming, as if maggots are crawling beneath the skin. It was once a beautiful city, and just before wanderers die, they see a vision of that. It's possible to leave this place, but you must be fast, as the air is toxic. The entities here are stronger than they usually are, because the air strengthens them. One out of every 1,000 wanderers will survive the air, and once that happens, they gain the ability to control shadows. Any kind of shadow, anything they want to do, they do. It takes imagination and practice. Once they gain control, the entities avoid the Shades (the ones who can control shadow) out of fear, and they can see clearly, as if it was day.

It is somewhat unique in that it exists differently than other limspaces or really anything that we can understand. It does not exist physically but rather is entirely composed of sound. Everything has unison and is note based.

Level n "The Road of Fear"

Difficulty: 1/5. The road is only mildly slippery.
Entity Count: 1/5. The only entity is the narcissist.

Description:
Level n is an infinite, mildly-slippery highway. You spawn in a moving car with no brakes. Despite the lack of brakes, the car can still be stopped via opening any of the car doors. The car will start moving again once all car doors are closed. This level is similar to Level 6 in the sense that no two wanderers can ever see each other in this level. The car has a built-in almond water dispenser which is activated by pressing a button.

The Narcissist:
The Narcissist is the name given to the only entity in Level n. It cannot be seen but it can be heard claiming that this level is far more dangerous than it actually is. It has also been heard saying that it is the only thing that matters in this level (hence the entity's name).

Communities:
There are no communities in level n.

Going through a [insert gateway appearence here] in level n-1 leads to level n although many wanderers claim to randomly show up here.

Exits:
Occasionally, you can find a highway exit. Driving through the exit will transport you to level n+1.

Seeking crit.

Level # Appears as a flight of average home stairs, and seems to last for what is assumed to be infinity. This level is close to pitch black. The walls are fully white with pitch black stairs. There seems to be a rail of some sorts. Looking past the rail shows a pitch black abyss with no end. Every few minutes, a slightly muffled thumping sound will randomly occur. The sound resembles a train moving.

DANGERS

It is always suggested to bring a flashlight due to the dark nature of level #, but that's not the main threat of the level. The walls of the level evoke a feeling of claustrophobia, and makes the wonderer of the level start to become more and more anxious. Staying too long in this level will lead to severe anxiety, claustrophobia, and the urge to commit suicide. Most deaths from level # come from tripping and falling down the stairs. When the bodies are found, they appear with no teeth, jaw, or tongue.

COMMUNITIES

No outposts can be made here due to the lack of clear space. There is only one documented attempt at a feasible outpost. When the UNCB commanded that the need for a research team in level # is done. The research team set camp in level # but mere hours later contact was lost and what was left was one note which goes as follows, "Exit - 00 is our site and main objective. No members of the UNCB will stop what we have seen and we will soon reemerge from the womb. They have sent them to cleanse and stop any of what they call 'bacteria'. We have to reach our calling."

Level 3 is like level 11 of the backrooms except it is older and it is always daytime. The houses have lots of supplies and entities are everywhere but they are friendly. While in level 3, your vision is black and white. (Level 11 of the backrooms looks black and white but that is probably just because the photos are black and white.)

Level 4 is similar to level 3 but it is colorful and everything is from the 1980s-2000s. To get to the next level, find a futuristic spot to go to level 5.

Level 5 is a futuristic city with a (mostly) peaceful aura enveloping it. To go to the next level, find a stone corridor to enter level 6. You can also go back to level 3 by touching an old photo.

Level 29 is an infinite child play-place, mainly filled with bouncy castles and slides. These slides can go on
for as long as a mile. In some areas, you can find strange artificial gardens and nostalgic restaurants.
There have been reports that if you go far enough, you might find outside playground areas.

There have been reports of observers and hounds but these have not been confirmed.

It is unknown whether communities are present.

You can enter by going into Isolated stairways covered by small concrete structures or rubble in level 27

You can exit by taking a exit door in one of the restaurants which will take you to level 17 or walk up a
slide to be teleported to level 30.

It looks like a preschool but glitches pop in and out of existence nonstop and can appear anywhere. Touching the glitches doesn't cause too much harm. The worst they do is make small lesions on your arm. The limspace is accesible from Area 1 (which i believe is the HQ of the oculus initiative) but the entrance is hard to find and to get out you have to go through the front door which will lead to Area 3. I was thinking this limspace could be Area 2.

Level 2 is a neighbourhood where it is constantly raining and the rain is made of fresh water. All of the houses are explorable but the houses appear to suffer from a blackout. Active lanterns, lit candles, and flashlights are scattered around the houses. The flashlights have an infinite battery life so it is reccomended you take those. Food and almond water can also be found in the houses.

An office building may randomly appear before disappearing after 5 minutes. Entering the office building before it disappears will lead to an office buiding in baseline reality.

On Level 1 I made no major changes to the meaning of the content, while on smilers I did go out on a limb and add some bolder edits. I'm all about quality through collaboration, so don't hold back on critique for anything I do, and let me know if edits like this are extensive enough that I should be posting drafts instead of editing live. I don't think I've broken any rules or gone contrary to any other advice I've seen in the "Information" section of the site, but I'd like someone to tell me if I'm stepping on toes or breaking decorum.

My plans here begin with general edits for diction and sentence structure for the overall stylistic consistency of levels 2-27. Beyond that, I'm also interested in leading the charge on a consistency pass to shore up logical contradictions (see my other thread for details.)
Way down the road I may consider adding a floor or two, but that's dependent on inspiration, and on finishing my edits to make sure I know what I'm doing as far as style and canon go.

I'm on my third or fourth reading of the Level articles and I can't tell whether or not the inconsistencies are intentional. There are a good few contradictions, but one that immediately comes to mind is Level 1's Communities and Entrances and Exits sections. The average reader will likely have questions about the means of operating outposts in L1.

Besides the article's advisement against settling in L1, the entrances and exits section states that there's no way into L1 except other universes. In addition to contradicting later levels (such as the Cavity) which claim to have methods of returning to L1, this also implies that a settlement would be dependent on gathering the extremely scant supplies from L1 or subsisting on what new people have on from baseline. Neither seems feasible, and I wonder if the original idea was that readers are intended to notice this and speculate how outposts stock supplies.

It seems more likely to me that people simply didn't get around to adding to Entrances and Exits after a new level is written and approved. If that's the case I'd like to eliminate inconsistencies in the existing articles at least as far as entrances and exits go, but I want to make sure there's not a reason this hasn't been done yet before I do.

While I'm at it I'd also like to run a more general consistency pass as well, shoring up less obvious contradictions and perhaps adding more inter-level material for a more cohesive read. It appears that the current floors are all liked enough to assume that they will remain — in some form or another — canon for the foreseeable future. Nevertheless, I don't quite have a handle on the voice the articles are supposed to be written from. I haven't found anything about it in the writing guide, so it feels like these are probably public UNCB documents intended to disseminate general knowledge and survival tips. If this is so, the inconsistencies seem unlikely to be an intentional feature, although I see huge potential to hint at anomalies that create inter-level discrepancies in mind or in reality.

So if you've got a stake in the level articles and/or the canon, please chime in! I look forward to hearing others' thoughts on this and working together to create a cogent canon that reads smoothly and unnerves with the best of 'em.
